Black History Month Feature - Beverly Johnson



Beverly Johnson is a supermodel who has helped pave the way for black models in the fashion industry.  She was the first black woman to grace the cover of American Vogue in 1974. Her cover was groundbreaking in the fashion industry where the following year a staggering number of  designers chose black models to model their collections. Beverly was also the first black woman to appear on the French edition of Elle magazine and quickly became a premier model of her time.  She has graced more than 500 magazine and was named by The New York Times as one of the most influential people in fashion of the 20th century.  Beverly branched out of modeling appearing in many movies such as Ashanti, The Sky is Gray, and Crossroads. She currently has a successful wig line, Beverly Johnson Hair Collection. In honor of Black History Month, A Flair For Fashion salutes the elegant and groundbreaking, Beverly Johnson.
